Haphazard Posting

The last several months (and indeed the majority of the year – if not longer) has been marked by the haphazard and irregular nature of my posting to my Blogs and the updating of my websites. This is likely to continue for some time and for an indefinite period of time. Why? I have been battling depression (essentially), though I have no real understanding of why/how it has come about. A number of years ago I was involved in a car accident that nearly killed me and I suffered a brain injury as a result of the accident. I am as fully recovered as I am likely to be and it has not really left a great permanent impact on my life – though this depression may prove to have been its lasting legacy.

I have thought of closing down the Bogs and websites on a number of occasions – but have not really wanted to do so. I would like to return to them with the same enthusiasm that I once had, though I am obviously unsure when that will be. Also, closing down the sites would be like yielding to the mental illness and sliding further down the slippery slope, which is not something I want to do. So it’s six of one and half-dozen of the other as regards what to do.

So if you have been a regular reader/user of my sites I ask for your continuing patience and understanding – normal service is something I am aiming at returning to. I just don’t know when that can/will be.

Pip.io

Pip.io is an online way of having conversations with family and friends in chat format. Discussions can be either private or public. It is a very useful site which I use with some of my websites. You can join discussions or start your own channels – for free.

Delicious

Delicious is a bookmarking/favorite web application, in that it saves and archives the URLs that you like. Of course you can save your bookmarks/favorites in your browser, which I do with Google Chrome (Bookmarks). I use Google Bookmarks for mine, as well as Delicious (which I use for my public bookmark sharing web application). I also use Wonderpage (see https://onetoday.wordpress.com/2011/02/02/wonderpage/ ) to visually show my Delicious bookmarks as thumbnails of the page.

Why do I use both Google Bookmarks and Yahoo’s Delicious (currently owned by Yahoo anyhow). Well there are a number of reasons. Firstly I prefer to use the Cloud for most of my Internet tasks, which will generally always allow me access to my data no matter what computer I use and/or wherever I am. Using both also allows me to have a readily available backup – which is always wise I think. Of course I also like to allow visitors to my Blogs, websites and so on, to have access to sites that I think are fairly useful and valuable.

Anyhow, have a look at Delicious – it is in my opinion the best bookmarking application in the Cloud.

SlideShare

Today’s link is to SlideShare, which is a web application/resource that allows you to share documents, videos, and presentations with others. It could also be described as a social networking type site. There is a free version and a pro version (more services).

With slideshare you can embed your material into your Blog and/or websites. There are plenty of things to like about SlideShare, so have a bit of a look at:

Namo Web Editor

I used to use Windows Live Writer to update my various Blogs. I found it to be a very useful application/tool. However, as the number of posts in my Blog grew, I found that the software slowed down dramatically and it also began to play up on a very regular basis. Eventually I decided I needed to try something different. This process has interrupted my Blog posting for months and I have now settled on using the same software I use to maintain my various other websites – Namo Web Editor.

I use Namo Web Editor 2006 on my Windows 7 lap top without a problem and feel I have no need to upgrade to the latest version. However, I suspect that at some point I will probably do so and will very happily pay to do so. I believe that Namo Web Editor is a brilliant product and very easy to use.

To post to my WordPress Blogs, all I do is copy the HTML code and paste it into the HTML editor in my WordPress dashboard. On the dashboard I input the various post categories and tags, as well as set the time for my post (often posting for the future). This way I get my Blog post to look exactly as I wish it to look – especially given that I prefer a fully justified paragraph format.

PS: I wasn’t paid to advertise or comment on this product – I use it and love it.

Topsy: A Twitter Search Engine

Wow, it has been almost two months since my last post on this Blog. Time has gone by quickly as I have struggled to keep up with the demands of running a number of different Blogs and websites. In fact, I have done very little with many of them – just been too busy and too tired. Hopefully that will change a little now. I’m trying to become a little more disciplined with my time in order to allow myself to get on with the task of maintaining the various websites I own.

Today’s ‘daily’ is a website called ‘Topsy.’ Topsy is a search engine for Twitter posts or tweets as they are often called. If you would like to search Twitter for a particular topic or even a username, Topsy could be just the place you are looking for. I found it today and experimented a little with it – a very good little site I thought (for Twitter). Just another of the seemingly countless Twitter applications that are out there.

Restarting The Blog

Over the last few weeks I have been doing a fair amount of consolidation of websites and reassessment of website plans, etc. I have now arrived at the decision that I will be able to continue this Blog – so I will be starting again tomorrow.

To mark the restarting of the Blog, I have given the site an overhaul – which I hope you like.

Blogging: An Introduction

Blogging is all over the World Wide Web these days, with Blogs now being the most popular websites around. However, there are still plenty of people who don’t have a Blog and new web surfers who don’t understand them. This post is for you:
