The link below is to an article (with embedded video) on Quotista that I prepared using Storify. For some reason I can’t post it here in the usual manner, but the link still works.

From My Armchair: 4 August 2012

At the BookShelf

I am into my last days of annual leave, so it is doubtful I’ll be able to read anywhere near as much as I have this last week. I’ll probably have the Kindle out at lunch for a bit, so I’ll still be getting some reading in even while I’m at work. The Kindle has certainly made it a lot easier to have good reading material available no matter where I am. Loving the Kindle.

Social Networks, Web Applications & Other Tools

Not a lot has happened with the social networks in the book/reading niche over this last week, except that I have been updating Goodreads on a regular basis as to what I am reading, progress and cataloguing the books as I go.

I did do a quick addition to Quotista, which has a lot of potential but doesn’t appear to be being developed any further, which is…

DeepMemo

DeepMemo is another social networking site for quotes. There are a number of uses for DeepMemo, whether it be collating quotes for private use or sharing quotes with others.

There is a toolbar that can be installed in your browser, which will allow you to highlight text and then press a button for the quotation to be saved and shared.

Quotista: Sharing Quotes Social Network

I am looking for a web application that will allow me to store quotations online, that will allow me to search the database, allow me to share quotes, etc. I haven’t really been able to find the application that is just what I’m looking for, but Quotista seems to be the closest to what I’m looking for. I have joined the Quotista network and will begin experimenting with it. It certainly has a lot of potential and is still only in beta development, so I’m sure it will continue to improve. It is already a pretty good site.

Evernote – Remember Everything

Evernote is a web application that allows you to store everything that you need to remember, whether it is a few thoughts jotted down on a scrap of paper, a photo, a business card, newspaper article etc. There seems no end of possibilities for using Evernote.

Some of the ways I’ll be using Evernote will be:

  • to keep a record of quotes from books I’m reading for easy recall (using tags and notebooks – basically a folder).

  • to keep scanned copies of articles from magazines, newspapers, etc – saves having to hold onto endless copies of magazines and papers, etc.

  • to keep copies of snail mail letters, bills, etc.

  • to keep copies of receipts I may need one day.

That is just a few ways I’ll use it – how about you?

I’ve Returned with Broader Horizons

I’m back after my extended hiatus from this Blog. The reason for the break was my moving to a new place to live. So I’m now all settled in and ready to get back into it all.

The other thing is, that I have also decided to broaden my horizons and post not only photos, but also videos, quotes and links, but still only one post a day every day. I just felt I needed a little more scope with material to post.

So, my new post will follow here soon.
