Google Books

Google Books have often had a lot of bad press. The bad press has been largely over issues relating to copyright and similar issues. However, as a concept I find the Google Books project to be a tremendous idea, especially making available so many books that are no longer in publication. I have found Google Books to be a tremendously important resource.

The Lake Eyre Basin

There is simply no other place like it in Australia. The Lake Eyre Basin is Australia’s ‘inland sea’ and an important wilderness location, particularly for bird breeding. If you have ever wanted to travel to Lake Eyre, this is an important website to check out.

MY DEAR FRIEND – I MISS YOU GREATLY

100_1682 I have missed a day’s photo along the way somewhere and so I have been posting for the day before for a couple of days now. So for today only I intend to post two photos, one for yesterday and one for today – but not only for that reason.

The other reason I want to post two photos today is because two people I have counted as important to me have died in the past two years and today I visited the grave/memorial of each of them.

100_1684 The first memorial I visited was that of my dearest and most important friend, Rebecca. My dear friend – I miss you greatly. It was a hard, hard thing to do today – to visit your memorial at Beresfield. I felt I was unable to say goodbye today and will need to visit again soon. The memorial park was packed with people because it was ‘Father’s Day’ here in Australia and I just found it too difficult to do with so many people about. I will come again soon, but I will also visit often.

I have never forgotten you and I never will. I remain forever your friend and I hold you dearly in my heart. I miss you so much and wish you were still here.

I also visited the grave of another good friend’s sister, someone who I regarded as a good friend in the past and someone I have always held dear – my friend Heidi.

MY MONDAY MORNING – ONCE EVERY THREE WEEKS

OK – so this Blog is about posting a photo every day and the photo is to capture some aspect of my life/experience that I can share with others. Well, today’s photo provides something of an insight into what I do on a Monday morning at work, once every three weeks.

100_1667I guess the task that has been photographed can be seen to be something terribly mundane and monotonous. However, it is part of my job and something that is essential in the operation of the retirement village in which I work. It is also plays an important part in providing (granted it is a small part, yet essential part) the overall experience that is living in the over 55s retirement resort at Tea Gardens Grange. It is another task that is taken care of for the people living in the village and adds to that terrific retirement experience that is Grange living at Tea Gardens.

Is it mundane and boring? I guess it is a mundane task – it certainly isn’t a romantic task. Is it boring – not really. I have the opportunity of interacting with many of the residents as I go about my task, as well as interacting with other staff both involved in the same task or otherwise. Also, the surroundings in which I work are hardly oppressive in any sense whatsoever. So in short, it is a part of my job that needs to be done and is not a task I would describe as particularly burdensome. Sure, you can make it that way if you wish – but I do not find it that way at all.

So what is the task – collecting the garbage bins and delivering them to the garbage pick up location and then cleaning the bins afterwards.
