Tennant Creek Telegraph Station
This photo was taken during my first major trip around Australia in 1998. This photo shows the old Overland Telegraph Station at Tennant Creek, built in 1874.
The ‘Astronomers’ Monument’ is located at Lightning Ridge in New South Wales, Australia. It is another of those strange sights to be found in that town. The monument is simply a local’s hobby, being built as a memorial to famous astronomers.
The Astronomers’ Monument can be found on the self-drive ‘Red Car Door Tour’ at Lightning Ridge. Visit the Visitor’s Centre at Lightning Ridge for a brochure.
Trial Bay Gaol is located within the Arakoon State Conservation Area, not far from South West Rocks in New South Wales, Australia.
The gaol was originally built in the 1870s and was used during World War I as an internment site for Germans. There is a small cemetery located outside the gaol grounds for those who died during their internment.
