Blog Changes

Hi all – just want to let you know of some changes to the Blog I’m working on. Firstly though, thank you to my small band of loyal followers and commenters – I appreciate all of the feedback I get from you. I also thank every visitor to the site (except the spammers – way too much of that and I don’t like it!). I appreciate everyone’s visit here and hope you get some joy out of the visit – at least don’t go away feeling worse than when you arrived. If you have a blog site, feel free to leave a link in your comment – I do try to visit the sites of those who visit my Blogs.

I have been Blogging now for a good number of years, not always as regularly as I would like due to Internet issues, health matters and the like – all of the usual suspects for falling behind in posts. Sometimes I just simply don’t feel like posting, being too tired or something like that. But I do try and post regularly. Now I feel like I need a little change – not too dramatic though. Just a little something to stop boredom, becoming stale, etc.

I am still going to try and post either a photo, a video, a link or a quotation per day – that’s one of those four options per day. I am working on changing that a little by way of post structure, content and variety (rather than just weeks of photos for instance). I have a bit of a plan which I hope will be useful. I have already tried out a few things in recent weeks – especially using Storify (which I’ll use more often in the future). So you can expect some quotes (don’t think I posted any before) for a change too.

The other real change to the site will be an additional post per day – so it will now be two posts a day. The second post will feature a story on some aspect and/or experience I have encountered (usually from the day of the post). So it will basically add something of a ‘365 Blog‘ feel to the Blog as well. I’ll probably try and tie my Foursquare and Foodspotting presence into these posts a little also.

So hopefully you’ll like the changes.

Kevin’s Walk on the Wild Side

Today’s link is to one of my other Blogs. The Blog is called ‘Kevin’s Walk on the Wild Side.’ The Blog is a place for me to post news about my trips into the Australian wilderness, environmental news, conservation news, etc.

Ownzee: A New Blogging Platform

OpenZine has now started a Blogging Platform called Ownzee, which seems to be similar to its magazine making platform. The problem from what I can see, is that there is a serious lack of documentation about ownzee. There is no ‘about’ section, no ‘how to’ section, etc. Have a look and see what you think.

Beta Li.st

Today’s link is to a Blog that is concerned with the latest Internet start ups, including various social networks and web applications. Being right into this sort of thing, I check out the site on a daily basis. A great Blog to go back to again and again.

I have a number of Blogs that I maintain dealing with a number of different subjects and things. One of my Blogs is called Random Thoughts and it is really a Blog about many things. Some of the chief subjects covered in the Random Thoughts Blog are various Christian subjects including persecution, my perspective on various issues and so on. The Blog also covers various news items from around the world including various disaster stories, war stories, terrorism, etc.

HappyRambles

HappyRambles is something between a Blog and a personal diary. It is a way of remembering the blessings you receive and/or what you are thankful for each day.

When you are registered and set up, the application will email you each day with a reminder to log in what you are grateful for on that day. You simply reply to the email with 3 to 5 items and your Blog/diary is updated. The daily email also reminds you of what you were thankful for on a previous random day.

You are also able to share entries with others by simply emailing them a copy of your day, right from the entry.

I Rate My Day

I Rate My Day is a rather simple daily Blogging type tool. All it is is a simple way to let your friends and family know how your day is going. It is a simple micro-blogging site, with very brief notifications posted as to how the day is going for you. You can also link your ratings to your Facebook profile.

mlkshk

Milshk is a start up web application – a Blogging platform in fact – that will be opening soon. I already have a number of Blogs (the total is now in double figures), yet I will be adding a mlkshk Blog to the mix as soon as I am able to do so. Why is that? Because mlkshk is different to the other Blogs I already have set up.

Mlkshk will allow its users to save images from all over the web and then share them with others. It would seem that it will work in a similar way to Tumblr and Posterous.

skinnyo

As I try to get back into Blogging on a regular basis again (yeah, I seem to be struggling with that at the moment), I thought I might use my daily posts on this Blog to offer up some links to some more web applications and social networking sites. I generally think that most of these are applications of some type or another, even though some of them will have a social aspect to them.

The first is skinnyo. Skinnyo, as the name probably suggests, is about getting ‘skinnier.’ It is an application to assist the user in loosing weight. Skinnyo gives you a personal weight loss diary that includes embeddable graphs and a photo history for tracking weight loss – which also includes a target goal that you can set and aim at.

If however you are unable to find the motivation to stay on track by being a private user of the application, you can also pull in friends and other users to assist in your weight loss efforts. This is done by setting challenges and/or joining other challenges set by others. This is where the social side of the application and community comes in. Of course there is also a status and news feed of others within your circle of skinnyo friends, so you can keep track of your friends weight loss efforts and share your own with them – setting up something of a support network.

As for showing others your weight – that doesn’t happen. Skinnyo will only show your differences in weight (that which has been lost – or perhaps gained). So no need to be too embarrassed by it all.

There is interaction available with both Facebook and Twitter accounts as well – should you wish to do so.

There is also a widget that is available allowing you to embed your weight loss efforts in a website or Blog (only showing the weight loss – not your weight).

Did I mention it is free to use?

Me? Well, I’m on my way loosing weight and to reaching my goal.

Blogging Platforms

Today’s link is to a Blog post on Blogging platforms. This list of Blogging platforms is well over 100 in length. Some perhaps are not what one would consider when looking for a Blogging platform on which to establish a Blog – such as Facebook, Bebo and even Twitter. But the best choices are there including WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr and Posterous. Have a look and choose well.
